A million things to see in this little square of sand |
The cruising life forces one to slow down. We are all on "island time" down here and while this might be frustrating to some, we love it. There's more time to dream, more time to reflect, introspect and just
think. There is also more time to look around and take it all in. It's amazing what you see when you just sit still and watch. The beauty of life is all around us no matter where we are. A tender interaction between a mother and daughter, a tiny hermit crab scrambling across the street, the way the clouds move or a itsy-bitsy fish swimming around in a little tide pool...all of these things make me smile. There is so much to see if we look closely and patiently and only now am I really beginning to get the hang of it.
Love,
Brittany & Scott

It's the same thing under water. Scuba divers tend to keep moving. I have seen much more critters while just sitting still. Takes about 5 minutes but they get use to you if you don't move much. Ken
Snag one of those shells for the little man. It would be like a treasure for him!
Well said. I keep on waffling about the islands, thinking that its just a big drunken party (not that there's anything wrong with that :)) but I see here that it could be a lot more then that.
This is 95% of the reason to do what you are doing, no?
This is 95% of the reason for doing it at all, right? Ok...94%.
@anonymous - yep - underwater it's AMAZING what you see being still...we LOVE snorkeling and diving...
@ Travis and Maggie - I dont know what islands you are referring to, but the Bahamas are largely unpopulated and we have rarely been in the presence of other boats (besides our friends). Although I do hear Georgetown is like a hokey summer camp for grown-ups, which is weird...but you can party, or not party - to your hearts content! I wouldn't let a reputation hinder you from seeing this amazing part of the world! :)
@John...yep. and the sailing, and the people, and the places, and the challenge, and the lessons, and the growth that comes from all of it... :)
Yes, but now you are getting into the other 200%. You guys have a great blog. You'll be hearing more from me....
