It's not every day you get to watch a sea plane land, motor through a crowded anchorage, and then back up to a beach bar in between a bunch of dinghies and skiffs. But that is exactly what happened two days in a row this week here in Georgetown. The whole thing caused quite a scene. Every person on the beach literally stopped what they were doing, brought out their cameras and smartphones and started snapping pics. The pilot was obviously skilled and knew
precisely what his wingspan was, but even still - it was pretty wild to see an airplane essentially park in a crowded lot on the beach. I was hoping the person inside was Johnny Depp or Jimmy Buffett, but no such luck. Just "normal" uber rich people.
Ho hum. Apparently these folks are the owners of a private island down here and are currently building a resort. It's a pretty extravagant way to arrive at a little beach bar though, wouldn't you say?

And maybe a little sand in the burgers at the Chat and Chill when he fired up those turbo props!
Ah the Twin Otter....great bush plane and I have quite a few hours in those!
As to Jonathan's comment, it's not stupid nor dangerous to taxi in to the beach if you know what you are doing. With proper clearance (which, judging by the pics, he has) it's perfectly safe. Seaplanes land and taxi safely every day in crowded harbors all over the world and I'm assuming most folks scooting around the anchorage know enough to stay clear of the spinning thingys on the wings.

You make a great point. Got some great information here. I think that if more people thought about it that way, they'd have a better time understanding the issue. Your view is definitely something Id like to see more of. Thanks for this blog. Its fantastic and so is what you've got to say.
